The level tip of the Mainstream sw line is 6 inches. Cut off more than 5 and your leader connection may start to get into the front taper. My standard lightweight largemouth bass setup is a 5 wt rod with a WF-7-F bass taper or sw taper line. Works great for me for close range work and for presentations out to 40-45 ft. The heavier line helps casting larger or heavier flies than I might with a 5 or 6wt line and helps load up the rod on those really close in casts.
