I have fished some in Alaska, but can't help you a whole lot on flies. I used a 6wt and 8wt, primarily on rainbows and grayling and some salmon. Used flesh flies, egg patterns for the rainbows, a brightly colored flesh fly for salmon and Paracute Adams and mosquito flies for grayling.
For do it yourself fishing, I highly recommend The Highway Angler by Gunter Pedersen. It is great for fishing easily accessable water. The book put me onto a lot of fish.
