Practically speaking I usually like the side cutters. I think it makes for a slightly faster cut as you don't have to run the line down the length of the jaws to the cutter for the inline cutters - not an issue however if you are just talking tag ends being cut. But I don't think you are giving up much, if anything, with inline cutters if that's your druthers.
