It was too big for a smelt...probably 6-8 pounds by the look of the surface commotion. I thought salmon since it was silver and they are notorious for tail grabbing....plus the seas were so flat calm and it was such a deep spot...acted like a coho with the slashing. Could have been a schoolie striper though for all I know
