I like fluoro for some situations because it sinks and is more sensitive than mono. Uni, San Diego, or Kreh loop for tying to hook eyes or swivels, double uni for joining smaller lines of similar diameter, or if big fluoro than slim beauty. I don't tie or use traditional stepped down fly fishing leaders. Avoid the palomar knot as it is weak if not tied perfectly (no crossed legs). As with all fishing pull hard enough when seating knots that it will break in your hands if not right. For heavy lines use dowels or leather gloves to really seat and test the knots hard.
