I think I read somewhere recently that there are some folks here in the U.S. (Massachusetts maybe??) that are farming them in entirely closed systems, i.e. entirely indoors with all the water going through tanks, etc, not in outside ponds. I can't recall the details, except that it sounded like it wasn't very cost effective yet (which doesn't surprise me), but held promise as being very environmentally-friendly once they worked the kinks out.
