But it does help to use a knot with a solid lock, like a three turn surgeon's instead of a blood knot. For standard FC (as opposed to the super slim stuff) above 20# I can get by with a non-slip mono loop with just one wrap for the knot to the hook-eye. I've used it to land fairly large tarpon and have yet to have one fail. It's all my guide uses, and he's never had one fail. Follow Bill Nash's advice. Do not lube a FC knot with saliva. Use either a commercial knot lubricant or plain water. I never much cared for FC until Bill figured that out and publicized it both here and in his book.
