I seem to remember fiddling, (with Harro), with very fast taper, hefty butt, glass "steelhead" blanks in the late 70's for Papuan Bass, which is probably the idea behind these "new" things.
There isn't much you can do with fly rod tapers also, except go back in history.
I seem to remember that the "old" Fenwick SH1024 rods didn't break very easily.Like tough as old army boots.
