If saving money's the controlling factor in your choice, I suggest you look for a good used reel on ebay, or on any of the other used gear websites(board contributor Jim Williams' site, Just Reels, comes to mind, among others). That way, if this saltwater thing is just a one off adventure, regardless of the reel you buy, when you go to resell it, you won't be losing the depreciation from new to used, and should be able to recover most or all of what you spent, assuming you resell it in similar condition. And don't believe the hype: most of the high end reels do not command more than 70 or 80% of their msrps, once they're used. And notwithstanding others' postings here, I'd go with a sealed drag, saltwater tolerant reel, especially on a trip to an exotic(read: remote/primitive)locale.But, if you're hell bent on an Abel, ebay as I write this has 504 Abel reels for sale, 81 of which are auctions, many of them used. Keep a watch for new listings, and you'll find something that works for you, that you can resell after you return--and if you plan to do that, just consider the difference between what you pay and what you can get for it on your return, as a rental fee. That will not likely break your bank.
