In 18 years of fly fishing I have broken exactly one rod while fishing. This occurred when the pickup of a lipped fly didn't go so well. The fly rocketed back at me, hit the tip section of the rod, and sheared it cleanly.
I usually use a roll cast pickup to get a lipped fly out of the water before the backcast but it didn't go right that time. |
