If you upline a ten weight rod you're going to need a reel that will handle an eleven weight floating line and at least two hundreds yards of 30# Dacron or perhaps 50# GSP backing. A superb reel, really a very well kept secret, would be the TFO LA/425. It's big enough, has a superb drag, and has tolerances way better than many reels in this price range. It's price: $300.00. You can easily spend more, but you'd have to spend a lot more to get a better reel. The Sea Level Tempest III does not have enough capacity, but the Extreme IV, at that same $300.00 price is another option. It's really more of a twelve/thirteen weight reel and so is heavier and has more capacity, but it's a sweetheart. And it might be large enough to do the pelagic fishing in Costa Rica, too, which the TFO is not, at least not for the sails, etc.
