You probably already knew that kokanee are land locked sockeye, as Peter said. But you are correct, they are the same only different! What I want to know is if sockeye must have a lake in their natal river. I have read that this is essential for the juvenile fish to grow out a little before they hit the salt. Salmon are amazing. They are all almost the same but each one occupying a slightly different niche in terms of spawning strategy and timing.

Very cool photo, Ralph. Do the browns follow them in order to eat them? If so, you must be talking about HUGE browns.
