David,

While I do not fish for west coast seabass, I can tell you that this squid fly (called a squidward) has been my go to squid fly for years. It is basically made of ostrich, marabou, some Krystal flash and cross cut rabbit. Tied on a Mustad 34011 long shank hook and tied to swim hook up (Clouser style) due to the dumb bell eyes. When it hits the water it breathes and moves like it was alive! It is easy to tie and very effective. Hope that helps.
