As one who uses Abel Carib Camo reels, I should eschew cork for bling but I do not. Do use rosewood and becotte for turned conventional gear rear handles. I can find excellent cork either rings or pre-assembled. I also prefer 30 min epoxy with either rings or pre-assembled. However, if I messup the reaming on a pre-assemble I'll use the foaming/expanding urethanes.

However, I have seen significant variations in cork quality in 700-800 rods at flyshops...so if I was purchasing I'd look for the best cork. However, I would never say never to some bling...composites, reconstituted, etc but it would have to be my bling design...not factory
