Nice story Mike. I still have dad's creel and some of his tackle.
My fondest memories are going to the mountains with him to fish the Truckee and the West Walker. When I pass the West Walker near a heavily constructed wooden truss bridge in the town of Coleville, it all rolls back to me. Especially in the fall, when the flaming tunnel of seasoned cottonwoods come to bare, I can remember me, dad, and my brother plunking worms in the potholes around the bridge. You could see the browns, holed-up under low flow. I think that why I love the eastern Sierra and Hwy 395. It's liek dad never left. |
