Let's see. My first fly rod was made from bamboo, purchased used from a family friend. Then I got a fiberglass one. Now I mostly use rods made from graphite. And all the grips were cork.

What's the big deal? If it works, use it. If it doesn't work, or something else works better, then use something else.
No problem for me. Now I'm kind of curious what's coming at us!
