Well,
I personally think it's a non-issue when it comes to striped bass in the early season. If you can't feel a grab when they are typically very aggressive, you've got another problem. It's not the line. I fish a T-14 Custom tip Express almost exclusively for Delta Stripers and so do my clients. We usually know when we've been bit.
I can also feel the "drag" of my fly and when I lose contact with that feel, I set the hook - hard and pronto! Since that loss of contact tells me a fish has picked up the fly from behind and has swum toward me with it.
Most of the .030 intermediate shooting lines offer little stretch and are not a problem.
Casting no dispersions on Angel, but he is a bit new to the game and maybe with a little more experience, he'll find some of his perceived problems vanishing.
I stopped using mono as a shooting line for stripers years ago because it had too much stretch and while I had no problem detecting a hit, I did experience problems setting the hook at long distances, dropping lots of big fish.
I don't use mono for stripers now unless I have to cast very long or get very deep or if fishing the surf. Suffix Elite has less stretch than Amnesia.
