I have lived in Naples for 7 of my 29 years, with most of my life living in the San Francisco bay area. As far as south Florida goes, I think it is the best town you could live in. It has a low crime rate, is mostly very clean and well maintained, easy access to Pine Island Sound and the 10k/Everglades region, housing can be upscale but still reasonable, and a straight shot east 1.5 hours to Lauderdale. With that said, the downsides to living in that area are the total lack of any mountains or varied geography, a very large elderly population, not much else to do besides fishing and golf, biting insects, and oppressive heat/humidity late May thru early October with an almost daily thunderstorm threat. I for one prefer living out west because of the weather and varied geography, but Florida DOES have some amazing fishing...there are fish literally everywhere!
