The fish was taken while snapper fishing in deepish water in Exmouth Gulf. It was not a record, just a capture which Dick reckoned was pretty quick on a 200lb handline.
There are plenty of places where such fish might be caught in the Exmouth area, and they are pretty prolific around Shark Bay, and more Northern waters, in deep water. It seems that the big ones are deep water denisens mostly.

Richard Baker is somewhere north of Exmouth, at the mining camps. He might still be interested in fishing but Dick went over in the late 80's I think. I saw him about '85 or so at Exmouth. He was in his 80's then.
