|When do you plan to be here? |
For the most part, you can access the Gulf all the way from Galveston to San Luis Pass to Freeport. Also, there are spots where you can access the bay side via kayak, which can be rented locally.
From now until winter, the fishing should be great, provided we don't get hit by a storm (today is the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Ike). Speckled trout, redfish and pompano should be within easy wading off the beach. There should also be some ladyfish, jacks and mackerel around as long as the water stays warm. Clousers, deceivers and other large profile patterns would be my go to patterns.
In the bay, trout, redfish and flounder should provide you with your best opportunities with sheepshead thrown in for a bonus. Floating line with size 4 & 6 clousers, crab, shrimp, seaducers & spoonflies should be your best bet.
A couple of good sites for fishing reports and info are
Texaskayakfisherman.com and 2coolfishing.net. A good book for wade in and kayak fishing info on that area is Ray Crawford's "Wade and Kayak Fishing the Upper Texas Coast". Here is the link to Ray's site http://www.texascoastalfishingbooks.com/uppercoastbook.html
There are also some detailed aerial maps in the book as well as on the site.
I hope this will help you get started in your search.
Tight lines, Chris
