Hi Bob,

Greg is right, doing your own maintenance is SOOOOO easy. If you are completely uncomfortable doing anything mechanical then it's prudent to stay away from it but if you can change the fluids on most of the cars you have owned, then changing the oil on an outboard is a snap. Also, you can purchase shop manuals from most manufacturers nowadays. These are very easy to read and understand.

Quality outboard service is hard to come by these days and when you find it, usually there is a LONG wait. Doing your own service is a great way to save time and money. With a shop manual and a torque wrench you can even do your impeller with ease.

For tricky stuff or if you prefer to let a mechanic do it, I recommend Nelson Gong in Salinas. 831-663-9322. I use him for tough stuff, so does Stan P. and Dan has service done by Nelson and Dan is thrilled with his work. Hard to find a better guy.
