|As Dave said, they were dumping "salvaged" fish from the screens at the export pumps at Tracy and/or Clifton Court into the mouths of waiting predatory fish and birds. Any fish, be they threadfin shad, striped bass, salmon or steelhead smolts that enter the export pumps are all dead fish whether they are "salvaged" or not! The system, as operated, pretty much sucks unless one considers that killin' fish is a success. |
Mitigation would be doing something that would replace the millions of fish killed every year or fixing habitat so there would be natural reproduction in our rivers (again) and without any fish being killed by water export system.
